The main shipping channel servicing the Port of Auckland is directly out from the beach and is very busy. In the summer months there are lots of pleasure craft and yachts to contend with as well.
This tide on this beach goes out as far as 400 metres. The main channel is not far from this point.
Kitefishing is not recommended during the day in summer due to the proximity to the channel. Fishing for snapper in the evenings and night is much better here.
This beach is not suitable for Bottom Longline Rigs.
Fishing close to the reefs can be done by experienced fishers using Dropper Rigs with the correct terminal tackle or ledger rigs. This type of fishing results in more fish and bigger
snapper being caught during winter.
There is intermittent flat papa rock and soft mud out from this beach. Snapper come in very close to shore at night here. |
